The Players Nobody Wanted
Preseason began five days later in Atlanta. Charlotte lost by twenty-two. They turned it over twenty times. Jamal played twelve minutes under a medical restriction. Luka airballed his first NBA three. Marcus scored nineteen in the fourth against bench players and was dismissed online as a garbage-time merchant.
Then came the home preseason game.
Only nine thousand people entered Spectrum Center. Some came to boo. A student section chanted FIRE DANIEL before tipoff. A man in a vintage Hornets jacket held up a sign listing every failed rebuild since childhood.
Charlotte trailed by sixteen in the second quarter when Dawson abandoned the veteran lineup and sent in the unwanted four together. Marcus at point. Tyrese at the top of the press.
