The King of Short Selling
The Cobalt trade became Ethan's first real win at Blackquarry. Funding spreads widened in December as markets convulsed over Federal Reserve hikes, trade-war headlines, and fears that liquidity was thinner than everyone pretended. Cobalt missed earnings, disclosed higher delinquencies, and admitted it had amended a warehouse covenant. The stock fell from $31 to $18 in two days. Blackquarry made $146 million. Ethan received a bonus large enough to pay off his highest-interest loans and move to a Manhattan apartment where the heater worked.
At the holiday party, Marcus found him standing alone by the window.
"You don't drink?"
"Not when I need to remember things."
"Paranoid."
"Prepared."
