The Team Nobody Wanted

The team’s facility was tucked inside a sun-faded apartment block on the edge of Los Angeles, the kind of place that looked one bad month away from collapse. No champion posters. No sponsor wall. Just a whiteboard by the entry with the name written in marker: `Harbor Reign`. Nobody in North America took them seriously. They had finished near the bottom the year before, gone through two coaches, and played on hardware that looked like it should have been retired years ago. When owner Michael Stone signed them, he didn’t talk about winning titles. He talked about not finishing last again.
