Lan-Zero produced an electrical sound suspiciously like a sigh. Blue light scanned the pipe. Rusty nuts melted into silver droplets and spread through the crack. Three seconds later, the pipe was seamless. Lin’s file left no mark. “Microscopic lattice reordering,” Lan-Zero explained. “Missing mass replaced with scrap steel. Strength increased three point seven times.” Lin’s expression changed. Two years in a materials laboratory had taught him what atomic arrangement could mean. If Lan-Zero could control crystal lattices, the scrap aboard this boat was no longer scrap. He dragged out a crate of ruined lithium cells recovered from seawater. “Can you repair these?”
