The Rumor Under the Overpass

"Him!" one of them shouted. Ethan came out of the dark at a run. The first attacker lunged. Ethan slipped aside, caught the man's wrist, twisted, and shoved him into the vending machine. The machine toppled with a crash, glass exploding across the sidewalk. The second punk drew a short gun. Ethan heard the faint tremor in the shooter's finger before he ever saw the muzzle move. He only needed the angle. A kick knocked the weapon offline. The shot tore into the night and ricocheted into a bridge pillar. Luke tried to bolt, but Ethan grabbed a fire extinguisher from the ground and slammed it into the man's leg. When Luke went down, Ethan pinned him by the shoulder and asked, low and sharp, "Where is the next Lighthouse site?"
