The fracture opened completely. Dozens of silver-white figures fell toward the black water. Lin Jin activated the transfer, and his vision went dark.
He emerged in Bellfall, the most remote beginner village in the game. His character wore rough cloth and carried a wooden sword, but the Crown above his head shone like a beacon. Red dots representing hunters appeared along every edge of the map.
Lin Jin ripped off his headset.
Dawn had not reached the cramped rental room. Someone tested the door handle outside, followed by hushed voices.
“This is the room. Zenith's people said we'd get twenty thousand if he signs account custody over to them.”
“What if he doesn't?”
“Scare him until he does.”
