Chapter Three: The Golden Bait
Su Wan chose a twenty-four-hour laundromat for their meeting.
At two in the morning, washing machines turned behind a glass wall. She wore a gray coat, with an old laptop and three marked contracts before her.
“Cafés have cameras, hotel lobbies have acquaintances.” She slid over the blue document. “No one here cares about an unemployed lawyer and a player on a ten-day deal.”
“How did you know He Xiao called me?”
“Because he contacted three media outlets tonight with a story about Haiyue graciously rescuing its discarded player. If you sign, the story stops being that you blocked Haiyue. It becomes that Haiyue saved you.”
