Chapter Four Ledgers and Bullets
The third was Miguel, who ambushed the capo who had ordered his brother's murder. Three shots. Not one more.
The news called it gang violence. Carlo knew better. He sent in an infiltrator, an Irish kid named Danny with a clean smile and a good trigger finger. Marcus disliked him. Miguel liked him because Danny ran toward danger.
Ethan did not expose him. He let Danny join a false hit on a Moretti cash truck. The leaked ambush found only empty boxes. The real cash truck moved down another route and was taken by Marcus.
Danny knelt in the basement, pale. "When did you know?"
"When you first walked in," Ethan said. "Poor men ask about pay. Infiltrators ask about loyalty."
Miguel drew his gun. Ethan stopped him. "Death is too cheap."
