Chapter Two: The Carousel at 00:13
Han uncovered Lu Chen's palm. A black mark shaped like a door had appeared there. “Twenty-six years,” he sighed. “And another man named Lu.”
An internal alarm interrupted them: unidentified baggage detected at Carousel Three.
“Three has no motor,” Lu Chen said.
“That is the problem.”
The abandoned carousel was turning when they reached Arrivals. White mist poured through its rubber curtain. Every destination display changed into the same unknown symbol.
A white fawn slid onto the belt. Its translucent antlers resembled winter branches, and an iron trap had torn its belly. Behind the curtain came the breathing of something much larger.
