Chapter One: You Will Die in Seven Minutes

A man who had spent ten years in cybersecurity did not begin by believing. He began by looking for the exploit. The message had passed through three anonymous relays, yet its signature used a post-quantum patch that had not been made public. Stranger still, a hash string sat at the bottom of the body. When Lin dragged a random system log onto it, the hash unfolded into a sentence. “Do not trace me. Look at the third screw from the left rear corner of the router.” He turned the machine over. The third screw was newer than the others, its cross-shaped groove untouched by dust. The muscles in Lin’s back tightened. He removed it with tweezers. Instead of a mounting post, he found a black capsule no larger than a grain of rice.
