Chapter Three: Three Hundred Thousand Is Not Hush Money
“Get down!”
The instant Chen Mo threw himself at Su Wanqing, tires screamed outside the notary center.
A gray sedan jumped the curb, shattered the glass entrance, and stopped against the pillar behind them. The airbags burst open. Its driver slumped over the wheel as broken glass rained across the lobby.
2:21 p.m.
One second later, Su would have been standing directly in its path.
People screamed and scattered. Tang Ye's video call lay on the floor, his voice shouting, “Chen? Chen!”
Chen pushed himself up, blood running from a cut palm. He looked first at the driver, a man in his fifties whose face had turned blue. The paramedics diagnosed sudden cardiac arrest. Vehicle data showed his unconscious foot had pressed the accelerator to the floor.
