Harlan stared at it. "That's for silence," Jack said. Harlan nodded quickly. "I saw nothing." "You saw plenty." Jack stood. "You saw Crowe's bounty men die at your door. You saw me pay and keep terms." Harlan blinked. Jack shouldered the gold. "When people ask, say it that way." He stepped out of the furnace shed as sunrise climbed over the waste. The trading post watched him from behind windows. They were no longer looking at a ruined veteran. They were looking at a man with gold, a man who had killed bounty hunters, a man who had made Titan's name bleed. Before Jack mounted, the storekeeper hurried out and handed him a paper.
