Chapter Two: My Lawful Husband
Zhiwei did not open the door.
“Name, purpose, and how you found my address.”
“Xie Chenxing. I'm here to fulfill our contract. The contract gave me your address.”
“Which contract?”
“The kiss you gave the cookie.”
After a pause he asked, “There is a new cut on your left palm, isn't there?”
Zhiwei looked down. A thin wound had appeared exactly opposite where his hand rested against the door.
“That wound is mine,” he said. “We share injuries. If you leave me outside as the sun rises, I may die here. You will feel it too.”
Burning pain ripped across her shoulder. She opened the door as far as the security chain allowed.
Smoke was rising from Chenxing's shoulder.
