Chapter Two: My Lawful Husband
A roar rose from the street. People shouted her name. One offered a fortune for an interview; another fought over her broken umbrella.
“Stop it,” Zhiwei ordered.
“I'm trying.” Sweat shone at Jiming's temple, though he kept smiling. “You give orders very naturally, wife.”
“Don't call me that.”
Every voice downstairs fell silent.
Jiming froze. Chenxing looked up.
“The contract doesn't only bind you,” Zhiwei said. “My words can alter its effects.”
“Smart.” A third voice came from the stairwell, cold as steel on bone. “Which is why you must be contained before you learn how to use it.”
A black-clad man strode past the guards. He had short hair, a scar beneath his right eye, an official badge, and a gun loaded with silver rounds.
