Chapter One: Seven Rules and the Eighth Chair

An old unnumbered television sat in the corner. On the desk lay a new red booklet stamped NIGHT MANAGER'S RULES. There were seven. 1. After midnight, the animatronics on the central stage do not move. If their positions change, turn off the lights in that area and remain silent for three minutes. 2. Leon is the only mascot capable of human speech. If he calls your name, answer: “There is no manager tonight.” 3. Bonnie makes only round pizzas. If you see a square pizza, do not eat it. Deliver it to Table Eight immediately. 4. Lulu does not sing birthday songs. If you hear her singing, gather all eight guests before the song ends. 5. This restaurant has no Camera Thirteen. Anyone shown on Camera Thirteen is not a guest. Do not speak to them.
