Chapter Three: The Hidden Eighth Rule
Zhou Ran lifted the candle but did not blow.
“The most important question at a birthday dinner isn't who makes the wish. It's who pays.”
He slammed Basic Inventory onto the table.
A translucent bill unfolded in the air: one square pizza, seven customers, one manager, total fear consumed—147 points. The payer field was blank.
“Hidden charges are invalid under consumer law. Under restaurant procedure, an event without a designated payer is charged to its organizer.” Zhou Ran wrote MIDNIGHT ZERO in the blank.
An alarm shrieked.
