Chapter Five: The Delivery That Never Arrives

Forty-five minutes remained on the order. The item was a Midnight Zero Signature Pizza. The recipient was Zhou Ran's mother. The note read: IF THE MEAL GETS COLD, REHEAT IT WITH A RELATIVE. Zhou Ran called the hospital. A nurse said a rider in a black helmet had appeared outside his mother's room and refused to leave. The freight elevator opened with a chime. An unlicensed black scooter waited inside. Zero Degree Entertainment's logo marked its delivery box. Five rules were printed beneath the lid. 1. The rider must not inspect the meal. 2. The recipient must sign in person. 3. If anyone asks the time, answer, “There is still time.” 4. You may cross red lights. You must stop at green lights.
