Chapter One: A Dead Man Accepted the Order
“Zhou Jibai.” The man used his full name for the first time. “Did your father, Zhou Chengyue, truly die of a heart attack three years ago?”
Jibai looked up sharply. The doors had already shut.
The sedan was still outside. Rather than ride home, Jibai took three detours and entered a twenty-four-hour bank. He inserted the black card, which someone had slipped into the side pocket of his delivery bag.
Balance: 300,000.00.
A narrow note beneath the PIN pad bore sharp handwriting:
Tomorrow at midnight, bring the old insulated box your father left behind.
Through the glass, Jibai watched the silver-gray sedan glide past. Someone in the back seat raised a phone and aimed it at him.
