A skin of mirror-bright light remained between them.
“You sent the photographs?” Shen asked.
Daystar nodded. “Before he nailed me into my source image, I pushed the plea into your next shoot. I could only reach you. The entire Back City still remembers the Fixed One.”
“I don't.”
“That is what frightens him. You do not need to remember in order to make the same choice.”
Only a dim ring remained around the star on her chest. Bai Shu had taken most of her power; Lin's belief alone had sustained the attack.
A motorcycle engine growled at the corner. A rider with neither helmet nor head burst from the fog, a red medical case strapped behind him. White absence was eating his machine inch by inch.
