“I asked you to sign, not audit us.” Cheng threw down the pen. “Reserve inventory needs signatures from the cellar, finance, and duty manager. A waiter's signature proves nothing.” Cheng studied him, then smiled. “Two years of finance school and you think you're somebody? Table Twelve complained that you solicited a tip. You're suspended for three days.” No shifts meant no wages. Lin thought of the clinic invoice and pushed the form back anyway. “Show me the complaint.” Ten minutes later his name was crossed off the roster. He removed his apron but stayed beside the lockers, where the delivery yard was visible. At three, Mountain & Sea's truck returned for silverware and a new warming cabinet. Cheng marked them as borrowed.
