Chapter Five: The Creditor in Uniform
Cheng offered Ajay a pen. “Your mother needs surgery. Sign and it's paid today. Follow Lin, and you'll get nine dollars.”
Ajay gripped the pen, sweating.
Lin did not tell him to refuse. “Save your mother first. No one will blame you.”
The hall fell silent.
“Will my withdrawal cost everyone a vote?” Ajay asked.
“Yes,” Lin answered. “But your mother should not bear that cost.”
Ajay put down the pen. “Then this isn't voluntary. You're using my mother as a coupon.”
He tore the agreement. Twenty-six others slid theirs back.
For claim submission, Lin wore the uniform he had taken home when fired.
Gu's lawyer smirked. “This is a creditor meeting, not table service.”
