An unmarked SUV waited downstairs. Inside, Tang passed him a tablet. Golden haze sealed the intensive-care ward. Three clinicians who approached had old injuries heal simultaneously. A laboratory mouse lost its tumor—and grew extra tail.
“Seventeen anomalous cures worldwide in six minutes,” Tang said. “Every doctor or patient downloaded Firefly.”
“Not downloaded. Ran it.” Lin enlarged the footage. “Firefly treats every case as broken software. It doesn't understand the integrity of a person.”
“Can you shut it down?”
“Would you disable every compiler on Earth to fix one bug?”
Tang narrowed his eyes. His ability, Malice Scent, had never failed in ten years. From Lin he sensed only anxiety, rage, and a concentration sharp enough to cut.
