Workers were trapped on one side of the channel. The pump control box had been drowned by floodwater, and the storm cloud above the city was already pressing low enough to make the air taste metallic. Under normal procedure, the nearest formal hero would need at least seven minutes to arrive, and seven minutes was enough for the waterline to rise by half a meter.
Aiden knelt to inspect the drain and found one steel grate jammed with debris. The main pump was completely dead.
“You know how to fix that?” asked a worker with mud on his face.
