The Man Leaving the ER Was Not the One They Wanted
Kelly Brooks came up the stairs breathless, carrying Mia.
“I couldn’t find you,” she said, close to tears. “They said to move the pediatric unit to the parking garage. They said it was safer there.”
Elias took Mia and immediately felt the cold sweat on her hands.
“Who said that?”
“A guy in a state jacket with a tablet,” Kelly said through clenched teeth. “He said he had FEMA authority.”
Elias and Grace exchanged a look.
Another fake identity.
Another node.
And this one was aimed at children.
“The garage is a trap,” Elias said quietly. “It’s the easiest place to lock people in.”
He was about to lead them out through the staff corridor when his phone flashed another message.
Unknown number.
A photo.
