The Highway Held a Second Fire

Inside were not guns. Rows of black waterproof cases. And a running portable server. “Film it!” Elias shouted below. Kelly was already holding up her phone with shaking hands, capturing the open van. Then the man in the reflective vest came out with a short-barrel handgun. Elias grabbed a fire extinguisher from the road shoulder and smashed it into the weapon hand, knocking the shot wide. The bullet hit the guardrail and scattered sparks. “Don’t let them move that gear!” Elias yelled. Sirens finally began stacking up in the distance. Not for him. For the real police now converging on the scene. The first Boston officers to arrive saw the live feed on Kelly’s phone, saw the black van, saw the server cases, and changed color instantly.
