Chapter One - Before the Lights Went Out

Elliot cursed under his breath and followed. While he ran, his mind was already rebuilding the building's layout from memory. Generator room in the basement. Fire suppression pumps on the same loop as the electrical conduit. Once the smoke found the vertical shafts, it would turn the tower into a chimney. The only window was to cut the main electrical return and force part of the building offline long enough for the pumps to recover. He reached the electrical room and burned his forearm on the metal handle before he could even grip it. The air inside hit like a blade. Several trapped office workers were spraying extinguisher foam at random. The foam vanished before it hit the floor. "Back!" Elliot yelled.
