Chapter Three: One Crate of Medicine Buys a City

“A Shard is a key. Picking it up also leaves fingerprints on the lock.” Lin opened his burned hand. The transparent chip had melted into the lines of his palm, and a silver anchor icon now floated at the edge of his sight. The Memory Anchor could preserve only seven seconds. They did not know whether that meant the last seven seconds before reset or any chosen memory. They had one chance. Lin did not use it yet. He first loaded the final twelve hundred crates of antibiotics from his warehouse and sent them free of charge to twelve public hospitals. The storm would destroy South Bridge at noon. Gu's logistics fleet would follow the route it had taken last cycle, carrying medicine toward the wealthy district, and become trapped in the river tunnel.
