Zhou Yu did not defend himself. He pressed Play. A little girl's broken song came through the speaker. It was Zhou Nian's final voice recording. In the background, a woman struggled for breath while comforting her. “Don't be afraid. Your father will find you.” It was Lin Wan. Shen Yan punched Zhou Yu. He staggered into a rack but did not hit back. He only wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. “I've been searching for seven years,” he said. “Do you think you're the only one who lost her?” The tape continued turning. The screen displayed access records from the final ten minutes before the flood. Lin Wan's card had been scanned twice on basement level three. The first scan showed entry. So did the second. There was no exit.
