The Disconnected City
“You can't tell me what you lost, but you'll pay half a million for it?” Lin smiled. “Obsidian owns valuable garbage.”
Zhou's smile disappeared. “That price expires today. Tomorrow, the device may become evidence of unlawful possession of trade secrets.”
“Then come back with papers.”
Before the car left, Zhou lowered his window. “A little early is profitable, Mr. Lin. Too early is catastrophic. Don't keep what isn't yours.”
Lin shut the door and had Zhao disconnect every ordinary line. Oracle remained online. Its new congestion map showed civilian traffic compressed into dark-red clusters. But dozens of golden links floated above the city—empty, stable, reaching toward the financial district and villas on the northern hills.
