Some held cancer reports. Some pushed children to the front. Others wept through loudspeakers. News drones hovered over the roofs while an online poll crowned a woman labeled TERMINAL MOTHER as the most deserving candidate.
Lin Zhou closed his door.
"He's letting people die!" someone shouted at once.
Su Wanqing climbed through the rear window with breakfast. Lin bit into a bun. It still had softness and heat, but no flavor.
"I can verify medical records," she said, "but not two hundred in eight minutes."
"Then we don't investigate them."
Lin opened his courier group chat. At 5:47 a.m., its biggest story was not him.
