Chapter Three: The Future Is Never Free
The sound surged through his headset. He wanted to smile, but suddenly did not know why he was sitting there.
Shadow Hound attacked the enemy core. Four people shouted beside him. Staff punched the air beyond the glass. Lin knew the game, the competition, and his own name. Yet something that had carried him here was gone.
Crimson's core exploded.
Zhou tore off his headset and struck Lin's shoulder. "That return dash was insane!"
Lin looked at him and slowly matched identity to face: Obsidian top laner. Zhou Ye.
Su did not celebrate. She saw the vacancy in Lin's expression and bent close. "What did you lose?"
"I don't know."
It was the most frightening answer possible.
