Chapter Three: The Future Is Never Free

"We can fight," Su said, flashing into the back line. Obsidian traded one for three and took the Ancient Titan. Warmth spread through Lin's chest. He had found a gap in the rule. The future could change without him paying, if another person chose to change it. Trust was not part of the power, but it could become a hand beyond it. Obsidian tied the series. Before game three, the ASH signs still shone, but the boos had thinned. Zhou tossed a mint onto Lin's desk. "Don't read into it," he said. "Ash always ate one before games." Not acceptance, perhaps. But no longer pure hostility. At thirty-one minutes, the teams were separated by five hundred gold. Ancient Titan spawned. Whoever claimed it could likely end the series.
