Chapter Three: Everday Screening
“A pack leader entering Everday is a declaration of war.” He looked at Su Mi, restrained in the back seat. “How long?”
“Nine minutes,” Shang Xian answered.
Somehow, he was sitting in the passenger seat. The mirror showed it empty, while his smiling face appeared clearly on the windshield.
Zhou Ye put the knife to his throat. “Get out.”
“I am only escorting your guests.”
“Then escort them.”
Jianyue helped Su Mi from the car. Before she closed the door, Zhou Ye stopped her.
“The night your parents vanished, I smelled Pei Du's blood at the scene. It isn't in the case file. By the next day, every record had been changed.”
“Did he kill them?”
“Inference, not fact,” Zhou Ye said. “In this city, memories lie. Bloodstains don't.”
