He entered the field and took the camera from Jianyue's hands. When their fingertips touched, an image flashed through her mind. Her nine-year-old self sat on underground steps while Pei Du crouched before her. “If you forget me one day, don't be afraid,” he said. “It means you survived.” The vision vanished. Jianyue staggered. Another memory was gone: the afternoon her father taught her to use her first camera. She remembered receiving it, but she could no longer recall his voice.
