Chapter Five: The Yesterday They Collected
A person in a silver mask stood there holding half of a pale bone.
The Moon Bone.
“Sacred to the North Ting Pack,” Jianyue said.
The masked figure ran.
Jianyue pursued him between the vessels. Su Mi attacked from behind, her fangs grazing Jianyue's shoulder. Unwilling to photograph her friend, Jianyue struck her jaw with the handle of the folding knife. The masked man drove the Moon Bone into a brass pipe, and every memory-shape surged toward Jianyue.
Shang Xian reached from the glass to seize several. The others passed through him.
“They aren't alive,” he said. “Your pictures cannot stop them.”
Jianyue looked at the Moon Bone. It came from a werewolf oath. It was a living rule.
She aimed and pressed the shutter.
