Chapter Two: No Such Person
“You had no accomplice,” Voss said. “That works in your favor.”
“Han Tuo wasn’t an accomplice.”
“No such person exists in the resident registry.”
“The registry says I’m an orphan. If someone changes one line, does that mean my mother never gave birth to me?”
His gaze faltered. Voss was in his thirties, with a white scar along his right jaw from a low-pressure freeze. Han had told Lin how it happened twelve years ago during a leak in the outer ring. Han dragged Voss through two airlocks and lost two fingers to the cold.
“How did you get that scar?” Lin asked.
“Training accident.”
“Who saved you?”
“I saved myself.”
He did not hesitate. That certainty chilled her more than a lie would have.
