Lin skimmed the receipts. A faded slip glowed faintly at its edge. The merchant address read: 17 Wuyin Street, Qinghuai District, Linjiang. [This street does not exist.] “Where did you get this?” Lin asked. Zhou chewed his straw. “Client dinner last month? The place was called Old Tao’s Noodles, maybe. Why would I go all the way to Qinghuai for noodles?” Wuyin Street returned no map result. In the municipal address database, the Qinghuai road list jumped directly from Wuqiao Road to Yinshan Lane. Lin called the number on the receipt and heard only three short tones followed by a long one, repeated like an obsolete code. He photographed the receipt and enlarged it.
