Chapter Three: Wuyin Street
Xu’s face tightened.
“Chen Yan.”
The man did not draw a weapon. He raised a black device resembling an old camera.
“Reporter Xu, you have forced 127 people to remember lives that do not belong to the current version,” Chen said. “Nine suffered psychological collapse. Two tried to return to homes that no longer exist. You call that truth. I call it a second injury.”
“And that makes the first injury acceptable?”
“Wuyin Street suffered an overprint. Two realities fought for the same physical space. Forty-three people died. If we had not removed the street, the deaths would have spread through memory.” Chen looked at Lin. “Give me the carrier. I can return you to the moment before you installed it.”
“Who is Lin Xiaoman?” Lin asked.
