Chapter Two: The Day Remade
“Wen Yu is alive?”
Xia Mi moved toward the stage. The faces reflected in the flooded seats turned to follow her, though the seats themselves remained empty.
“In my yesterday,” the silver-haired woman said.
“Let me see him.”
“You should ask the price first.”
The clock above the stage read 12:00 A.M., its seconds frozen. A screen lit behind the singer, showing the harbor two years earlier. Wen Yu, in his gray storm jacket, loaded equipment onto the research vessel White Whale. Xia Mi saw her younger self arguing with him in the rain.
He had promised to return for her first professional concert. Then she discovered an application for a post in Norway and accused him of planning to vanish again.
