In his first training session, Kane beat Vidal twice. Bello laughed from the touchline. On the third attempt, Vidal did not lunge. He retreated half a step and closed Kane's pass toward Bello. Kane played square instead, and young winger Jaden Reed intercepted near the center circle. Veer's whistle sounded. “Stop!” Everyone expected criticism. Instead, the manager walked on and moved Reed three yards higher. “Again.” The same pass, the same blocked lane. Reed intercepted and sprinted into the open right channel. Vidal never touched the ball, yet turned defense into a counterattack. Veer looked toward the cameras. Elena stood behind one. Lin held spare bibs, his badge still identifying him as a video assistant.
