Chapter Four: The Expired Metronome
“Your last manager kept you at number ten and demanded twenty-two high-intensity accelerations per ninety. Your knee isn't incapable of football. It is tired of paying for the wrong distances. At Seabridge you drop twelve yards, with runners ahead of you.”
Lin showed the training map: Vidal behind Serra, Kovac behind Vidal, never more than fifteen yards separating them.
“A start counts as complete at sixty-five minutes for bonus purposes,” Lin said. “You don't have to prove you can survive ninety. Prove sixty-five is enough to control a match.”
Serra looked down at the ice and laughed. “Players hate being substituted, kid.”
“Winners only hate it when the score is wrong.”
