Behind Lu, fleeing civilians froze and flames became orange paper pasted to glass. “Technical?” she said into the radio. “There's a problem with the source in Twelve.” Through static, the night manager Cheng Ye answered, “Server says it's fine. Did you see extra footage again?” “Extra dialogue this time.” After two seconds, he said, “Go home and sleep.” Lu stepped forward. The picture rippled, and his boot emerged through the screen. Knee, shoulders, then a face far more exhausted than the one on the posters followed. He dropped into the auditorium carrying the smell of scorched film.
