Chapter One: The Same Day, Twice
With every sentence, another face lost color. The CFO's hand froze on a document bag. Zhou Xu touched the testimony hidden inside his jacket. Wanqing tightened her grip on her glass.
"Did someone warn you?" Chengze asked.
"Your rehearsal was obvious enough to guess."
Gu Zhengrong's voice hardened. "Then explain."
"Gladly."
Chenzhou lifted a remote. The ballroom screen displayed not the forged emails Zhou Xu had prepared, but server logs.
At 7:31, Zhou Xu had entered the upstairs study under the excuse of fetching medicine and connected a portable drive to Chenzhou's computer. On one side of the screen was the read-only cloud mirror Chenzhou had established an hour earlier.
