Chapter Four: Detached HEAD
At 2:47 a.m., Shen Zhou ran the checkout command.
`git switch --detach refs/hidden/white-tower/2009`
The terminal did not change directories. Instead, the testing-room door receded, revealing a corridor that could not exist.
Doors lined both sides, each marked with a seven-character hash. Applause from weddings leaked through one, the flat tone of a hospital monitor through another. In the nearest room, another Shen Zhou, dressed as a cook, was lighting birthday candles for a girl he had never met.
“Don't enter,” Lin Wan said, tying a red cord between their wrists. “Detached HEAD means we can read but not write. These versions cannot overwrite reality, but they can convince visitors they belong here.”
