The faceless figures shot upward and smashed into concrete. Su had seized a pipe. Lin, disoriented again, also fell toward the ceiling. She caught his collar with one hand and opened the extinguisher valve with the other. White powder erupted against gravity and filled the corridor. "Move!" They climbed through the service shaft. The creatures broke through the floor behind them, and screams filled the mall. With hundreds watching, Lin dared not create a broad anomaly. He and Su sprinted onto a glass skybridge. Doors locked ahead. The creatures closed behind. Outside waited a twenty-story drop. "Do you trust me?" Lin asked. "Give me the probability first." "First trial. No statistical significance."
