“Let go of the handle,” Lin said. Luca did not turn. The shop sign was a road marker split in two. Inside, rain poured over a parked car. No one sat behind the wheel, but the wipers moved. Each pass revealed a child's handprint on the windshield. “The key starts that car,” Luca said. “We could drive out.” “It only takes you back to the night of the accident,” Mia said behind them. In her hand was the cracked rearview mirror. Its glass reflected a rainy road. A younger Mia sat in the passenger seat with both hands over her mouth—but the person driving was not Luca. It was Mia. “My ticket says your lie,” Luca said. “Because I made you believe you were driving.”
