“You can see them too, can't you?” Lu Chen asked.
Gao Yuan slammed the locker shut. “Stay away from me.”
“You have twenty-one days.”
Gao Yuan punched the metal door. The room went silent. He lowered his voice. “If you want to live, pretend you see nothing. Spend the money. Play the games. Don't investigate, don't ask questions, and never trust anyone who offers to help.”
“Including you?”
“Especially me.”
He left behind a medical report. His heart was structurally normal, yet the physician had recommended immediate retirement. The report was three months old.
