Chapter One: The Best Door on the Worst Day
“What if today is destined to be the worst day of your life?” someone asked.
A man in a gray trench coat stood nearby. He carried no umbrella, yet his shoulders were almost dry. He was perhaps forty, with a faint scar below his left eye and a blank black coin turning between his fingers.
Wanxing hugged her box. “Then tomorrow shouldn't compare itself with today. It might develop an inferiority complex.”
The man smiled. “Remember one thing. Whatever happens next, believe it will ultimately benefit you. Don't console yourself. Believe it as firmly as you believe the sun will rise.”
“Do motivational speakers make house calls in the rain now?”
