Chapter Four: Turning Whispers into Evidence
His bank's hedge was too expensive; Polaris wanted custody of all his cash.
Lu proposed something almost aggressively dull: staged currency forwards, protective FX options, and a put spread on a FarDrive supply-chain index. Boundary Tide would charge a 120,000-yuan advisory fee and never touch Zhou's principal.
Before Zhou signed, FarDrive's taciturn driver said, “Blind spot on the right. Someone changed the road sign.”
Lu paused. FarDrive puts were strangely cheap, as if someone knew bad news could not arrive. He found no second source of evidence, so he signed the original hedge and did not enlarge it.
That evening, FarDrive delayed a new vehicle. Its shares fell eleven percent the next day, and Zhou's hedge covered the canceled orders.
