Chapter Three: A Debunk Is Still a Repost
The meme began at one percent distribution. It showed a crowd covering their mouths while trying not to laugh, with an alarm clock in the corner. It was not frightening. It was a little stupid.
Zhou Ye saw it on his stream. He held the image to the camera and wrote on his board: I’M IN.
Millions began reposting. People turned volume controls off and on, struck pans, dropped cups, and shouted their pets’ names. A disaster that had allowed only waiting suddenly offered participation. As the challenge spread, “shut up” began to slide from a permanent command toward a game with an ending.
Distribution collision: 75% versus 18%.
Not enough.
